Tire Retreading Process
Pre-Q treads began rolling on American highways in 1990. Pre-Q Rubber, an American corporation, handles U.S.A. distribution of PRE-Q treads and related products.

01Professional InspectionHighly qualified technicians determine the best tires for the retreading process based on the characteristics of the casing. In addition, a visual hands-on inspection of the tire will allow us to find and repair any defects. Finally an electronic inspection is applied to ensure the human eye has not missed any penetrations in the crown or sidewall.Next: Computerized Buffing
-
02Computerized BuffingIn order to ensure the contour of the tire is at the correct radius, the casing is inflated to the proper pressure. This process removes the worn tread surface leaving a surface on the casing that provides the best possible adhesion value for the new treads application.Next: Tire Repair
-
03SkivingSkiving involves smoothing the rubber to further refine any imperfect areas. Those imperfect rubber and broken wire areas are smoothed in a belt package to prepare it for the rubber extrusion application. Those areas are left with a beautiful clean surface.Next: Repair
-
04Tire RepairThe removal of all injuries identified during the inspection process and replaces the damaged material with structurally sound materials that returns the casing to a useful life and allows the tires to run their full life cycle.Next: Cushion Extrusion
-
05Cushion Rubber AppplicationPrecision Cushion Rubber Application uses a state-of-the-art computer controlled extruder that applies in a continuous splice-free strip. Matched tire diameters give you the benefit of even loading, smooth ride, even wear, lower cost per mile and improved fuel efficiency.Next: Tread Application
-
06Tread ApplicationA fresh tread, straight and centered, is applied on the casing with precise attention.Next: Enveloping
-
07EnvelopingThe assembled but uncured tire is encased in an elastic envelope and prepared for the curing process. The envelope is vacuum sealed to the tire to ensure air does not enter.Next: Curing
-
08CuringAn autoclave-type device that applies heat and pressure, and over time causes the bonding layer in the fresh tire to cure. This permanently adheres the new tread to the prepared casing.Next: Final Inspection
-
09Final InspectionA thorough inspection of the retread follows the molding and curing process. This ensures the quality of the final product is at an unrivaled level. Each new tire is run one final time over the NDT, then the final visual inspection. Done.
